Description
UP FOR SALE:1882 St Petersburg Russian Frog Paperweight A metal plaque inlaid in its base is marked with an initial "F" and the year 1882; in raised type "St. Petersburg" appears in English, not Cyrillic, so probably an export item.
Could be a relatively modern Art Nouveau style reproduction tourist item but still would make an attractive paperweight. Featuring a frog embraced by a lily pad, it's made of bronze or bronze-finished green stone and clearly shows similarities with the Art Nouveau period. There's also crystal or yellow colored glass frog's eye and a scarab beetle on the back of the leaf. About 1 1/2" tall and 2 1/4" at its widest. Weight approx. 3.42 OZS.. Please note that whatever this is made of it is NOT a solid cold painted bronze. I found an identical design St Petersburg 'cold painted bronze' frog listed on the internet and it was described as weighing 6.06 ozs. but this one weighs only 3.42 OZS. as mentioned above.
THE DETAIL IS METICULOUS WITH THE FROG PEERING OUT FROM UNDER A LEAF.
An exquisite gift that is sure to please.
