    Description

Dating to around the Roaring 20's, these 2 pieces are in beautiful condition.
The powder box & hair receiver are both in great shape with no condition issues to note.
The colorful tops represent the look of a mother of pearl shell and are made of
Pyralin, a later form of celluloid (celluloid is known to be the first form of plastic developed in the 1860's).
Pyralin was Dupont's version of this product.
Nor the tops or the glass bottoms have a makers mark.
Each piece measured about 4" wide and 2 3/4" tall with the lids on.
    Did you know?....
A hair receiver is a small pot, with a hole in the lid, kept on the dressing table in the Victorian era to store hair removed from brushes and combs.
The hair was recycled in a number of ways—notably for stuffing small bags, about 8–10 centimeters (3–4 in) across, called ratts, used to bulk out women's hairstyles.
Human hair was also used for stuffing pincushions and small furnishing cushions.
