Description
This stunning Scandinavian-style modular table or desk expands to two additional sizes to comfortably fit anywhere from 4 to 10 dinner guests as needed. The table is 5' 10" long and expands to 7 ' 3.5" with the addition of one insert or 8' 9" with the addition of a second. Just open the set of latches cleverly hidden under the tabletop, separate the tabletop using the built-in mechanical system, insert the interlocking panel(s), and latch the table closed again. I'm not sure of this piece's origin, date, or wood type, but it fits in perfectly with my midcentury-modern Danish teak items. Not only is it the height of practicality, but its origami-style geometric legs, each with three glides, give it a sleek, modernist look. I can't say my dinner guests have ever complimented me on my cooking, but they've definitely complimented me on the table. Shown in the photos:1) Table at its longest, with wide-bodied Frank Lloyd Wright chairs for scale
2) Table at its shortest, with the chairs in the same arrangement for scale
3) At its shortest without chairs
4) Inserts and mechanical system
5) Hidden latches
6) Fully expanded, without chairs
7) Fully expanded, without chairs
8) Table top, facing one direction
9) Table top, facing the other
10) Water stain-- result of a ceiling leak that dripped onto a placemat (can be covered with a placemat).
11) The most visible of the table's dings and scratches
As noted above, there are some blemishes that could use some simple sanding and refinishing, but even without it, this expandable table remains a gorgeous piece of ingenuity that will be the centerpiece of any room. Stands 2' 6" tall and is 3' 4" wide.
