The series ran from 2002 to 2009. Monk was a detective for the San Francisco Police Department. His wife's death ( the nodder has a wedding band on) causes him to have a breakdown and he spends the entire series solving mysteries as a non member of the Police. Tony Shalhoub was raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
