Description
Up for sale is an original collectible edition Ollie Bobblehead still in its original display box. It has never been removed from the box. The box still has its store price sales tag on it. The caricature bobblehead would stand about 7 inches tall when removed from the box. This is a hard-to-find first edition bobblehead of "Ollie" - the nickname of one of the founders of Ollie's Bargain Outlet. Ollie's was founded in 1982 by Morton Bernstein and Mark L. Butler with backing from Harry Coverman and Oliver "Ollie" Rosenberg. The first store was opened in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, just outside Harrisburg. As of August 2020, the chain has 370 locations in 25 states.
Ollie's stores feature its namesake co-founder Oliver E. Rosenberg, in the form of humorous cartoonish, caricatures and sayings (for example, GOOD STUFF CHEAP) throughout its stores' interiors, merchandising displays and on its logo and exterior signage.
John Luciew wrote that the caricature "became an Ollie’s Bargain Outlet icon, a discount sales signature. Over 25 years, his toothy grin, shock of white hair and loud unkempt clothes have become synonymous with saving money. Such is the power of a face of a franchise. Yet for the real Ollie, the discount start-up for which he signed the loan and lent his name in 1982, wasn’t even his main business. The Brooklyn-born Orthodox Jew much preferred and focused upon real estate, development and investing -- both in people and their business."
