    Description

Hello and thank you for visiting  : )
    **************
Up for sale is this excellent Slingerland Model 145 Brass Shell Snare Drum.
This is the official model designation according to the catalog.  8-Lugs.  Brass Niles Pre-Serial Number badge with good factory grommet seating.  Made around 1960 to 1962.  The size is 14" x 5".  The heavy Chrome Over Brass (COB) shell is round and generally beautiful.  The rounded bearing edges are excellent.  Original COB bottom hoop and a very nice 1970's Slingerland Chrome Over Steel (COS) top hoop.
The general condition is excellent, especially given that it is 58+ years old.  It is not a mint example, but everything is far nicer than normally seen, including the tension rods.  There are plenty of little blemishes including small scratches and mars.   It has been disassembled and properly cleaned inside and out.
The original Radio King 3-Point strainer was missing when I acquired this one.  Someone had previously installed what I think would have been a Trick Throw brand or similar - does fit.  One extra hole and one original hole enlarged.   These two holes are approximately 1/4" in diameter.  It was not a great job, leaving quite a few scratches inside the shell.  I have no clue as to the little bend on the inner flange (Photos #11 & 12).  The bearing edge is unaffected.
The Radio King era 3-point strainer works great, but is not correct for this drum from a collector's standpoint.  I had to piece it together with the chrome parts I had to work with.  These include mid-'50's frame and correct slide with an excellent knob from the later '60's secured with surgical tubing.  Very effective.  I don't have a lever for it, but the action is very smooth and easy to operate.
The Dobb's Dual Muffler is in excellent condition and completely functional.  This may or may not be original.  It is correct for the era and properly installed.  May be special order or dealer installed.  The unoriginal knob is from the later 1960's.  I really like that the two felt pads are slightly different shades of gray.  Everything else about this drum is transitional as well....
The Butt-End is in excellent shape.  Primo for the age.  I added two extra washers to give a little more clearance.
The original lugs are very good to excellent with some light scratches and what-not.  Far better than most I've seen from that era.  Freshly felted.  This drum was so early that it used the early '60's slotted bolts with the interior aluminum plates reversed.  Two of the 16 bolts are not original.  Very rare transitional era for this snare.
The Tension Rods are original and clean and lightly oiled.  They are in surprisingly nice shape with original washers.
Top head is a used Remo Pinstripe in excellent shape.
Bottom head is a used vintage 1960's Remo Ambassador General Purpose in fair condition.  One small split taped but still plenty useable.  I want to keep this one with the drum, as it was there when I got it - may be original to this snare.  Should of course be replaced if serious playing is the plan...
Snare wires are older used Ludwig that seem to be the standard Taiwan 20-strand set that we've all used so frequently.   Ya know.
